YT is a British artist of Nigerian descent who was born and raised in London, England. He originally began making music in his room on Garageband back in 2016, recording on beats ripped from Youtube. This solitary entry point, fuelled by his appreciation for the art form, then quickly developed into an obsession for the fun and overall experience of creating.
With making music becoming an essential element of YT’s life, he progressed onto FL Studio a year later in 2017, where he began to learn to produce beats and continued to elevate his recording process. From then on, he has been making and releasing music consistently throughout the years. Both sonically and visually, YT has always been willing to go against the grain and push creative boundaries by merging his wide array of inspirations and adding his identity to his art. He cites diverse influences ranging from drill talents such as Loski to pop megastars including Lady Gaga and Kesha.
Since graduating from Oxford University in 2023, the release of his project ‘#STILLSWAGGIN’, which is an inspired update on 2010s jerk music, and his viral hit ‘Black & Tan’ have consolidated him as one of the frontrunners in a new generation of UK rappers. His distinguishably unique sound can be characterised by catchy autotune melodies, his trademark lyrical creativity, witty punchlines and clever references.
His sonics are complimented by a bold visual identity which can be seen through his distinct dressing style, innovative cover arts and an impressive catalog of blockbuster-esque music videos. Accordingly, YT built up an insane level of hype for his highly anticipated tape called OI! which was released in March 2025 and instantly became a fan favourite. The music was then memorably brought alive during live shows, with YT touring throughout UK, Europe, Australia and New Zealand on the back of this release and performing at several major festivals, making 2025 his biggest year yet!
