New EP to celebrate George Michael’s Careless Whisper Anniversary

The 40th anniversary of the release of one of George Michael’s iconic hits will be marked by a Careless Whisper EP, to be launched on 18 October by George Michael Entertainment and Sony Music.

The EP will be available on digital and physical formats, will feature a previously unreleased live recording – performed at New York City’s Madison Square Garden in 2008, and will also include newly mastered versions of the original single, the extended mix and instrumental.

Careless Whisper, co-written by George Michael and Wham! bandmate Andrew Ridgeley, topped the charts in 25 countries in 1984 and is currently certified 7 x Platinum in the US, has sold over 1.5 million copies in the UK and has been certified Platinum and Diamond in a further 20 countries. Still popular with new generations, the hit is currently surpassing 700 million views on TikTok, with the video averaging close to half a million views every day on YouTube. It is also a member of YouTube’s and Spotify’s exclusive Billions Club.
