Bob Dylan Awarded Nobel Prize in Literature

Bob Dylan has been awarded the 2016 Nobel Prize in Literature, becoming the first ever songwriter to be honoured with the prestigious accolade.

One of our culture’s most influential and groundbreaking artists, he received the prize “for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition”.

President Obama commended Dylan for his win, writing on Twitter, “congratulations to one of my favorite poets.”

In the decades since he first burst into the public’s consciousness via New York City’s Greenwich Village folk music scene in the early 1960s, Bob Dylan has sold more than 125 million records around the world and amassed a singular body of work that includes some of the greatest and most popular songs the world has ever known.

A boxed set of his live performances, Bob Dylan: The 1966 Live Recordings, will be released on November 11th.
