Sony Music UK supports ‘New Deal’ for artists and songwriters

Sony Music’s industry-leading Artists Forward and Songwriters Forward initiatives prioritise support for our music creators in all aspects of their development, including our Legacy Unrecouped Balance Programme, artist portal and wellness programme.

Building on this, Sony Music UK has now committed to implementing the ‘New Deal’ principles agreed by our UK trade body BPI as part of an industry-led forum convened by Government to support legacy artists, songwriters and session musicians.

The new framework includes enhanced education sessions and digital optimisation advice for long-standing artists who have not renegotiated recently, and the launch of a Sony Music Songwriters Support partnership with the Ivors Academy, which will provide financial support for new and emerging songwriters. More detail on the Sony Music/Ivors partnership will be available in the autumn.

The package also includes a significant boost to rates for session musicians and a renewed commitment for labels to respond to contractual enquiries in a timely manner.

Further information about the BPI principles can be found here and on the UK Government website here.
