Our Values – the DNA of our artists and our people
- Creator First: In everything we do, we’re committed to artistic integrity, transparency, and entrepreneurship, putting our creators at the forefront of it all. From our position at the intersection of music, entertainment, and technology, we bring imagination and expertise to the newest products and platforms.
- Fuel Excellence: We are home to some of the most talented people in the world: teams, leaders, visionaries, innovators, and creators. We fuel excellence and empower performance to lead the industry in quality and setting higher standards.
- Elevate Each other: We are a diverse organisation united in our support and trust for one another, readiness to learn, and desire to collaborate.
- Imagine More: Curious and adaptable, we boldly embrace change, whilst daring to challenge and redefine what’s gone before. We find ways to accelerate progress, positively disrupt and are ready to pave a new way and create what comes next.
- Act Responsibly: Doing the right thing and holding ourselves accountable guides us in making a better place to work, to create and effect change. Our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion ensures our environment is for all and our decisions have a positive impact on our teams, business, partners, industry, communities and planet.
We support the causes that matter to our employees
Our people are passionate about music and the world. We want them to bring this passion to work every day.
At Sony Music UK, we have several Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) that actively set out to address the real-world causes and issues that matter most to our people, and how they impact us as a business and an industry.
- What If? includes a wide range of activities from mental and physical wellbeing (weekly gender-neutral football, running clubs and weekly breathwork, yoga, pilates and boxhiit), social events (quizzes, Gospeloke, pottery classes), and language lessons.
- HUE UK (Helping Unite Everyone) is dedicated to empowering and amplifying the voices of racially diverse communities, providing a safe space for like-minded colleagues, and dismantling barriers to foster positive change for Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic employees at Sony Music UK.
- S.O.U.N.D. (Showcasing Our Unique Neurodiversity) promotes initiatives and supports the neurodiverse community. They also work closely with our PX team to help establish Neurodiversity policies and recruitment practices.
- SWIM (Sony Women In Music) is committed to building a community of women from across the company and wider industry. They actively champion diversity, inclusion, equality and allyship by providing opportunities for networking.
- Freedom was formed for the LGBTQ+ community and allies, to diversify the conversation around LGBTQ+ representation in the company and broader industry.
- The Parents Network has members from across the company, and this group creates a supportive environment for parents at all stages. The group was a significant force in the formation of the Childcare Cost, Shared Parental Leave and Premature Babies policies.
Impact: Our Mentoring Programmes
Positive Influence is a mentoring programme in partnership with Creative Mentor Network. Launched in 2019, it aims to tackle inequality in the music industry by improving access and inclusion for under-represented communities. Over the past six years Positive Influence has helped over 150 young people learn, make connections and network within the creative industries.
Launched in 2023 by Sony Music UK and Digital Catapult, the Black Founders Programme supports Black British entrepreneurs in digital entertainment. It helps startups commercialise their innovations and raise investment through mentorship, workshops, and masterclasses.
Wellbeing
In the UK, Sony Music’s mental health support for employees and artists includes in-house psychotherapy support through our Director of Artist & Employee Wellbeing, which enables us to offer bespoke advice and resources at different stages of an artist’s career, in partnership with an artist’s management team.
We routinely offer confidential drop-in clinics for employees, to provide a safe space to talk about anything that might be causing stress. We regularly train staff in best practice mental health support, and we are committed to industry outreach.
