Three Sony Music Acts in the Sound of… 2014 Poll

Nominations for the BBC’s annual Sound of… poll were announced today and three of the 15-strong list are Sony Music UK artists.

George Ezra (Columbia), Chloe Howl (Columbia) and Say Lou Lou (Columbia) have all received nominations.

Sound of… is the annual BBC poll of critics and leading music industry figures to identify the coming year’s most promising new artists.

Singer songwriter George Ezra appears at number five in the list.  George hails from Hertford, North London but moved to Bristol to study a degree in music. When his local gigging took off and he appeared on Glastonbury’s Introducing stage, George left university to focus on his musical career.  Noted for fusing old and new, American and British, George cites the likes of Bob Dylan and Woody Guthrie as musical influences and the BBC’s Zane Lowe describes him as “one of the compelling and powerful new vocalists around”.

George releases his new EP ‘Cassy O’ on 16 March 2014.

Chloe Howl first came to attention in late 2012 with ‘No Strings’, a rousing pop kiss-off song to a wayward boyfriend. Citing a diverse range of influences, from Amy Winehouse to New Order, Chlöe Howl’s frank lyrics and electro beats have drawn comparisons to the likes of Icona Pop, Lily Allen and Katy B.  Following the success of her ‘Rumour EP’, she’s been invited to support the likes of John Newman, Bastille and Alex Clare. She’s also picked up praise from the likes of Huw Stephens, Zane Lowe and Annie Mac.

Say Lou Lou are twin sisters Miranda and Elektra Kilbey. Their visual styling has already seen them appear in a Vogue photoshoot and they describe their sound as “organic ethereal music landscapes with flowing instruments and vocals”.

Say Lou Lou have attracted a cult following with support slots across Europe for Foals and Hurts.
