OnSide Youth Zones, a national youth charity that champions youth work and believes all young people deserve access to opportunities, has received two years of financial support from the Social Justice Fund to run their music mentoring programme across three London Youth Zones – Croydon, Barnet and Barking and Dagenham.

OnSide reaches marginalised young people living in some of the capital’s most deprived and underinvested communities, providing essential and inspirational venues where young people can develop confidence-boosting skills in musicianship and beyond.

The Social Justice Fund supported two years of the programme which allowed over 300 young people to access one-to-one music mentoring sessions with Onside’s music youth workers to help build their creative music skills and confidence. As a result, the young people grew in confidence, gained a better understanding of different career paths in music, as well as developing new skills such as song writing, music production, learning an instrument, and musical arrangement.
