The Sony Music Social Justice Fund enabled Pirate to build upon The National Youth Studio Fund, an existing partnership between National Lottery Community Fund, Small Green Shoots and Pirate Studios. With numbers of youth centres falling across England, there is an opportunity to use studio space as a means to engage and build relationships with diverse, hard-to-reach young people.

This fund provides opportunities to help develop skills, improve education, and offer career opportunities in safe and welcoming studio environments. The first grant helped to fund a pilot that ran for six months in three regions (London, South West and North West), to prove the effectiveness of music with youth engagement and form the basis for a much larger national program. Following the success of the Pilot, the Social Justice Fund committed to supporting another year of the programme across the UK.
